MailChimp

MailChimp is a popular email marketing service that delivers millions of emails a day. You can use the integration to let users sign up for mailing lists by automatically adding a new contact to a MailChimp campaign contact list whenever contact information is collected through a Wufoo form.

Form Requirements

Build a form that collects your email subscriber’s contact information, make sure to include a single Check Boxes field that let’s users opt-in to your mailing list and an Email field.

Optionally your form can also collect your subscriber’s first name, last name, and any merge tags or groups you’ve set up in MailChimp.

Adding the Integration

TIP! Setting up your fields to support MailChimp field matching will make integrating easier. Learn more about field matching below.
  1. Log in and go to Forms.
  2. To the right of the form, hover over Edit and click Add Notifications.
  3. Select MailChimp from the dropdown menu and click Add Integration.
  4. In the new box that appears, click Connect to MailChimp.
  5. In the window that opens, log into your MailChimp account. If this window doesn’t appear, make sure your browser is not blocking popups from Wufoo.
  6. Select which list you want your form to add contacts to from the Add to this List dropdown.
  7. Select your form’s opt-in field from the Only send if choice is checked dropdown, this option makes sure that you only add users who want to be on your mailing list to it. Optionally, check Send Opt-in email to send a confirmation email with a link that users must click before they’re added to your list.
  8. Click Match Fields and select how your form’s fields should map to data in MailChimp. For example, select the field where people will enter an email address from the email dropdown. Read more about matching fields to MailChimp below.
  9. Click Save.

Mapping Fields to MailChimp

Supported Fields

MailChimp subscriber lists have 3 default fields that appear in the mapping widow:

  • Email: The email address of the subscriber (required)
  • First Name: The first name of the subscriber (optional)
  • Last Name: The last name of the subscriber (optional)

You can also map to any merge tags or groups you’ve set up in MailChimp.

For MailChimp text, number, date, address, phone and image fields, pick the corresponding Wufoo field from the field match dialog. When matching fields with choices, like Multiple Choice, Dropdowns and Checkboxes, all choices need to have a corresponding choice on the MailChimp field you're matching with. So, a three option Multiple Choice field on your Wufoo form can only be matched to a three option radio button field on the MailChimp side.

If you improperly match up your fields, you’ll be warned by email and also from your integration setup screen.

MailChimp Multiple Choice and Dropdowns must be marked as required in MailChimp. This is the only way that we can receive accurate error messages and report them back to you. If you do not mark your MailChimp Multiple Choice and Dropdown fields as required, they will not appear in the Wufoo field match dialog.
Unsupported Fields

MailChimp offers a couple fields that Wufoo cannot support through field matching at this time including the Birthday and Zip fields. As a work around, you can use a regular Date field in MailChimp instead of the Birthday field. This allows you to match with the Wufoo Date field. For the Zip field, we suggest using either a Single Line Text field or an Address field to match the Zip field in MailChimp.
